Intergas Boilers, an entry in the 2010 CORGI Heating Manufacturer of the year award, produce highly efficient condensing combination boilers. For example, The Intergas Combi Compact HRE boiler has ground breaking technology and incorporates the latest ’Double High Efficiency’ heat exchanger. Due to the separate central heating and hot water circuits several parts that can otherwise malfunction are not required. This eliminates a significant source of possible future component failures.
Over 50% of new domestic boilers now installed in the UK are combi boilers. They are space-saving in nature as they do not have to store hot water. This means you do not need a hot cylinder in the airing cupboard. It is both a central heating boiler and high-efficiency water heater - hence the name combination or combi boiler. They are a single compact unit which is often located in the kitchen, utility or possibly in the airing cupboard. The lack of hot water storage cylinder, cold water storage cistern and other components you would normally require in a conventional heating system means space is saved. Combi boilers tend to give significant savings on hot water costs. Hot water is delivered at mains pressure through showers and taps. Therefore a pump is not necessarily required for a powerful shower. As there is no need for a tank in the roof space, this leads to savings on the plumbing costs of installation, less pipe work etc.
If you require hot water on demand without needing to wait for it to heat up, wish to use your loft as an additional living space or your home has little roof space (a flat etc) then a combi boiler is often the most practical solution.
Regular (conventional) or system boilers are often recommended if you have more than 2 bathrooms or you have low water pressure. If you are replacing a conventional central heating system then you have the choice of combi, regular or system boilers.
